Hello and welcome to Lucas Payne’s Photography gallery. Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy browsing my images. My photography features images from Iowa, Alaska, Minnesota, and various other places.
I currently reside in the beautiful state of Alaska. I grew up in Iowa then moved to Alaska in 2004 after a long time dream of living in “The Last Frontier”. This is where I really started getting into photography. I purchased my first camera, a Canon Elan 7NE, not knowing anything about photography. I traveled around Alaska taking pictures to send back to family and friends in Iowa and started reading books about photography and learning more and more by experimenting. I purchased my first Digital SLR, the Canon Eos 5D, a couple years later and really started becoming serious about photography. A digital camera enabled me to learn quickly and experiment more by being able to see my results immediately.
I moved to Duluth, Minnesota in 2006 after starting a job on Shemya Island, Alaska that gave me six weeks off after every six weeks of work. I flew back and forth to work every six weeks between Minnesota and Alaska. Having a job with so much time off gave me the opportunity to get out and explore and photograph Northeast Minnesota and the North Shore of Lake Superior. After living in Minnesota for two years and getting permanently laid off from my job on Shemya Island, my girlfriend and I decided we would like to move back to Alaska. So we moved back home to Iowa during the summer of 2008 and spent time with our family and friends before leaving for Alaska in October 2008. We arrived in Alaska late in October 2008 and here we are today. I have had the opportunity to get out and capture some images of this great state and look forward to exploring and photographing many more places.
